Absconding JNU student Sharjeel Imam’s brother detained by Jehanabad police

His brother being questioned at Jehanabad. Another person has also been detained. However, the identity of the second person hasn’t been ascertained yet

New Delhi: On Tuesday in Bihar, the Jehanabad police detained the brother of anti-CAA activist Sharjeel Imam. Sharjeel has been booked on sedition and other charges in many states for his alleged “inflammatory” speeches.

“Jehanabad police have taken into custody to Imam’s brother of JNU student and co-coordinator of Shaheen Bagh protests,” media said.

His brother being questioned at Jehanabad. Another person has also been detained. However, the identity of the second person hasn’t been ascertained yet.

On Monday Jehanabad Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar had said police who reached Imam’s ancestral house in Kako police station area on Sunday night after “help was sought by central agencies”. Imam was not to be found but two of his relatives and their driver were taken into custody for interrogation and let off thereafter, the officer had said.

Bihar and Delhi police team have conducted multiple raids on Monday in different parts of India to nab Sharjeel Imam. The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has registered a sedition case against Imam. They have deployed five teams to locate Imam and conducted raids in the New Delhi, Mumbai, and Patna. However, he could not be found.

Police in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have also filed FIRs against Imam, one of the organizers of the Shaheen Bagh protest, over his speech in which he threatened to “cut off” Assam and the northeast states from the rest of Inia. Earlier, he had been booked in Assam and Uttar Pradesh.
