After West Bengal, now Maharashtra’s R-day tableau gets rejected by the Centre

Maharashtra tableau is considered to be significant and always remained the topic of discussion. The state has also won several prizes for unique concepts

New Delhi: This republic day we will not see Maharastra’s tableau in the parade at Red Fort. Reportedly the defence Ministry has rejected Maharashtra’s proposal for the tableau. Earlier, West Bengal tableau was not included in the parade list. The proposals have been rejected by the defence ministry

Twenty-two proposals from 16 states and union territories and six from central ministries and out of a total 56 have been shortlisted for this parade.

Maharashtra tableau was based on the 175-year-old journey of a theatre of the state. But it was not approved by the culture minister. Some states have a chance for the rotational method every year.

Maharashtra tableau is considered to be significant and always remained the topic of discussion. The state has also won several prizes for unique concepts. In the year 1983, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 2018 Maharashtra has won the prize for the best performance.

Meanwhile, leaders from West Bengal and Maharastra have lashed out at the centre for partial decision making.

NCP leader Supriya Sule also reacted after centre rejected Maharastra’s tableau she said “Republic day is celebrated all over India and all states should participate in Parade. But the government is acting aggressively and treating non-BJP ruled state in discriminatory behaviour. Both Maharashtra and West Bengal have played a vital role in country independence. Its an insult to the states and I condemn this action”.

The Defence ministry had received 32 tableau proposals from states and union territories and 24 from central ministries and departments.

There is a well-established system for choosing tableau for participation in the Republic Day Parade. The Defence ministry invites proposals from all states, union territories, central ministries and departments.

The proposals are then evaluated in a series of meetings of the Expert Committee contains illustrious persons in the fields of art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography, etc.

The committee judges the proposals on the basis of theme, concept, design and its visual impact before making its recommendations, the statement said.
