Arvind Kejriwal who has been attacked for introducing free electricity and other services in Delhi and Punjab questioned the government for the sudden uproar.
Mumbai: On Thursday, addressing a press conference AAP leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “The manner free services provided to the public have been resisted during the past few days is really perplexing. It is claimed that the nation’s governments will all go bankrupt if this is not halted. According to them, all such services should be immediately discontinued since it will cause a crisis. Additionally, this raises concerns about the Central Government’s financial stability. I wonder if it’s in horrible shape because of the size of the opposition.”
He stated, “For the previous 70 to 75 years, children have received free education in government schools, and low-income patients have received free medications in government hospitals. People also receive free rations. ”
What recently occurred, therefore, to cause such an uproar to roll back these services provided to the people?”, he asked.
Kejriwal further added, I really hope and pray that the Central Government is financially sound and thinking wisely on this .”
Kejriwal, who has been under fire for implementing policies like free power in Delhi and Punjab, questioned the necessity of implementing the Agnipath scheme for military recruiting.
“It was said that the Central Government was struggling to cover the cost of this system since the soldiers’ pension payment had grown so large. This is the first time a central government has said something like this since Independence”, he added.
Arvind Kejriwal also said that while taxes were levied “on food goods used by the poor,” they were utilised to write off taxes for “very rich and enormous enterprises.”
“It is public money, whatever you get free should be for citizens and not for contractors or ministers, those who speak against it saying ‘free revari’ have bad intentions”, the Delhi CM added.
A plea against freebies promised by political parties is being heard in the Supreme Court.
Last month, the Delhi CM was targeted by the Prime Minister accusing him of promising freebies in exchange for votes. Describing it as “revari culture“.
