Congress leader and former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s name is mentioned in Thackeray’s cabinet. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has again intensified the investigation into the Adarsh Society scam.

According to media reports, the ED team reached the Adarsh Society in Colaba on Wednesday. Ashok Chavan had to resign from the post of Chief Minister over the same scam. However, the Governor’s order granting permission to prosecute him was later rejected by the High Court. No official information was provided by the ED in this regard.

It is being said that the Adarsh Society has written to the ED that they need three months time to submit the necessary documents. They have to take these documents from CBI. During the investigation, they were taken by the CBI. The society has asked the ED to give 15 days advance notice before taking any action or attaching the building.

In 2016, the Supreme Court ordered the army to take possession of the building for security reasons. Most of the flats were sealed. Only a dozen flats are unlocked. Currently, all the flats in the building are empty.

The case surfaced in 2010

The case came to light in 2010. Due to this, the then Chief Minister of the state Ashok Chavan had to resign. On 21 December 2010, the Mumbai High Court termed it as a case of fraud and after that, it came to light that environmental regulations were not taken care while constructing this building. It was later ordered to bulldoze.
