Biplab Kumar Deb takes oath as Tripura Chief Minister

Biplab Kumar Deb, a gym instructor who campaigned and helped BJP gather the support of the youth in Tripura was sworn in by the governor of Tripura-Tathagata Roy.

 

Amidst the post-poll violence in the state after the statue vandalism incident, BJP’s CM pick Biplab Kumar Deb took oath on Friday. At a spectacular swearing-in ceremony in Tripura’s capital, Agartala Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah were also present. Tripura’s former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was also present at the ceremony.

On March 3, the saffron party conquered the state which has been the fortress of CPI(M) for more than two decades. Biplab Kumar Deb, a gym instructor who campaigned and helped BJP gather the support of the youth in Tripura was sworn in by the governor of Tripura-Tathagata Roy.

 

Jishnu Debbarma-a tribal leader of BJP was sworn in as a deputy Chief Minister. Debbarama still has not been elected as an MLA, as the election date for his constituency was postponed after CPM candidate died. The assembly election in his constituency Charilam (Scheduled Tribe) will be held on Monday.

In the 60 Assembly seat state, The BJP had registered a historic victory winning 43 seats. Communist Party of India (Marxist) ended up second with as much as 16 seats while the other parties in left front couldn’t even win one seat each. Congress too had to remain blank in the north-eastern state.
