According to BJP members, accused Congress MPs Dean Kuriakose and TN Prathapan charged towards Irani while she was speaking in the House
New Delhi: On Friday Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that “Sita is being burnt” while plans are afoot to build a Ram temple has created an uproar in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, Union minister Smriti Irani took a jibe at the opposition for politicizing and communalizing the issue.
Raising the issue of a rape survivor in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao being set afire, Chowdhury said that government on the one hand plans are afoot to build a Ram temple, on the other hand, Sita is being burnt. Chowdhury also added while talks were going on to make Uttar Pradesh an ‘Uttam Pradesh’ (best state), it is become “Adharm Pradesh” (broadly land of lawlessness).
The ruling BJP government sought an apology from two Lok Sabha members of the Congress for their “threatening position” towards Union Minister Smriti Irani, when she was speaking on the Unnao rape issue in the Lok Sabha, post-lunch-break.
According to BJP members, accused Congress MPs Dean Kuriakose and TN Prathapan charged towards Irani while she was speaking in the House. But both accused Congress MPs failed to return back after the lunch break.
“This is the most condemnable behavior. They came in threatening position…when she was speaking. She is a women member of the house. It is most unnecessary and opposition should apologize,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said in the House when it assembled after a lunch break.
Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, “Our party condemns how can some MPs behaved… when Smriti Irani was speaking a while back, they should apologize to her.” The opposition had made a ruckus in the Parliament over the encounter of the four rape-accused in Telangana.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pralhad Joshi says Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury should ask two Opposition MPs to apologize for taking a threatening demeanor towards Smriti Irani. TN Prathapan’s walked to the Well ‘aggressively’ while shouting something at Smriti Irani.
Chowdhury claims that since he was not present in the Lok Sabha at the moment, he cannot commit to procuring the apology, to which Meenakshi Lekhi suggested that he should discuss the matter with the two congress MPs concerned.
