BJP manifesto promises to abolish Article 35A granting special rights to J&K

New Delhi | Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today in his manifesto announced that the if come to power in 2019 the government will declare the Article 35A of the Indian constitution invalid which grants special rights to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP in its released manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra 2019’ stated that the BJP is committed to annulling Article 35A of the Constitution of India stating that the provision is discriminatory against non-permanent residents and women of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terming the provision of the constitution as an obstacle in the development of the state, BJP in its manifesto said that it will ensure a safe and peaceful environment for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

The party further added that it will ensure a safe return of Kashmiri Pandits and we will provide financial assistance for the reselement of refugees from West Pakistan, Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and Chhamb.

Article 35A of the Indian Constitution empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent resident” of the state and provide special rights and privileges to those permanent residents which are excluded for non-permanent residents.
