Chhattisgarh Minister says roads in his constituency are like Hema Malini Cheeks, draw flak

Congress leader Kawasi Lakhma said “I belong to a Naxal-hit area of Konta but roads constructed there are like Hema Malini’s cheeks

Dhamtari (Chattisgarh): On Tuesday Chhattisgarh Commercial Tax (excise) and Industry Minister Kawasi Lakhma of the Congress compared roads in his Konta assembly constituency with “cheeks” of veteran actress and politician Hema Malini.

Whereas opposition BJP condemned the remark and demanded an apology from the minister for “disrespecting” a woman Member of Parliament. Hema Malini is currently the BJP MP from Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress leader Kawasi Lakhma said “I belong to a Naxal-hit area of Konta but roads constructed there are like Hema Malini’s cheeks. However, roads constructed in the Kurud area are ridden by potholes because of corruption in their construction,” he said at a program in Kurud development block in Dhamtari district.

Kawasi Lakhma several times targeted senior BJP MLA from Kurud and former minister Ajay Chandrakar

Dhamtari district BJP president Ramu Rohra hits back and said, “Lakhma’s remark reflects the mindset of Congress leaders. Making such a remark for a woman MP is highly condemnable.” Rohra demanded Kawasi Lakhma’s apology for his remark.

This is not the first time that Lakhma has given any controversial statement, earlier in September, he faced criticism from the Opposition for asking students to “grab Collector and Superintendents of Police by their collars” to become a big politician. He sparked the controversy while addressing an event at a school in Sukma on September 5.

“A student asked me ”you have become a big politician. How did you do that? What should I do?’ I suggested to grab the Collector and SP by their collars, then you will become a politician,” said Congress leader. However, he had then clarified that his statement was misconstructed.
