Congress demands resignation as Sunny Deol appoints representative to constituency

New Delhi | The Congress party today demanded resignation of BJP Gurdaspur MP Sunny Deol describing ‘betrayal’ as the actor turned politician appointed his representative to his Lok Sabha constituency.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP KTS Tulsi speaking to News Agency said, “An MP represents people directly in House. He’s answerable to people and if he thinks somebody else is more suitable to understand their grievances, then he might as well resign and ask him to contest.”

Taking a dig at Sunny Deol, former Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar who contested against the actor in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections said,” In marketing, customer is always right, in democracy, voter is always right. One has to accept it.Voters never expected anything from him other than selfie with him.”

Bollywood actor and MP Sunny Deol had earlier appointed Gurpreet Singh Palheri as his ā€œrepresentativeā€ to the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency.

In a letter issued on the letterhead of the Gurdaspur MP, Deol appointed Gurpreet Singh Palheri as his ā€œrepresentativeā€ to ā€œattend meetings and follow important mattersā€.

ā€œI hereby appoint Gurpreet Singh Palheri, son of Supinder Singh, resident of village Palheri, district Mohali, Punjab, as my representative to attend meetings and follow important matters pertaining to my Parliamentary constituency, Gurdaspur (Punjab), with concerned authorities,ā€ the letter signed by Deol reads.

Palheri, who is a writer and line producer, said the letter was issued on June 26. He tried to downplay the issue, saying, ā€œIt (appointment) is for local issues. It is like being in 24-hour service of people of Gurdaspur.ā€

He, however, asserted that the Gurdaspur MP and the BJP were taking care of the public issues of the Lok Sabha constituency.

Palheri said Deol would visit the Gurdaspur constituency every month. ā€œHe will now come to Gurdaspur after Parliament session is over,ā€ he added.

Deol became MP after defeating Congressā€™ Sunil Jakhar with a margin of 82,459 votes in the Lok Sabha polls.
