Congress to hold protests against BJP-led Central government

The Congress will also hold Padyatra across India against the centre’s economic policies

 

New Delhi- The Congress on Thursday announced it will hold massive agitation across the country from October 15 to October 25 against the government’s policies that have allegedly led to an “Economic Slowdown”.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Cong Chief Sonia Gandhi at the All India Congress Committee or AICC headquarters in Delhi.

“We are meeting at a time when there is prolonged economic slump and Job losses are mounting by the day. the Investor is losing confidence and the government appears more and more clueless and insensitive” said Sonia.

Sonia Gandhi said, “The situation is challenging for the Congress in election-bound states and asked the leaders to prioritise party interests so that it regains in its lost positions”.

“We must fulfil our manifesto commitments and if not we will lose the support of people in any consequences” said Mrs Gandhi.

The meeting was attended by former PM Manmohan Singh, AICC general secretaries and in-charges of various states and Congress legislative party leaders, among others.

It was decided at the meeting that Pradesh (state) Congress committee delegate conventions will be held across the country from September 20 to 30 to highlight the economic slowdown said spokesperson RPN Singh.

The Congress Party will also hold Padyatras from October 2 to October 9to mark the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi said Singh.

The party’s membership drive will also start in October Mrs Singh said.

People can enrol themselves as members of the Congress party through an app on their mobiles and only basic information will be required.

Leaders have been asked to go booth level to enrol new members, Mr Singh said adding training of Congressman to make them aware about “false narratives created by the BJP” will be carried out.
