I am here to fill the political vacuum left behind by Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi: Rajinikanth

Taking a dig at politicians in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth said many people are upset with his decision and are discouraging him.

Two months after announcing his political entry, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth revealed the reason behind his decision on Monday. Rajinikanth who was attending an event at Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute said that a vacuum has been created in Tamil Nadu with the demise of former CM J Jayalalitha and DMK leader M Karunanidhi.

He further added that he wants to fill the vacuum left by these two leaders. He reiterated, “There is a vacuum in Tamil Nadu for a good leadership. The absence of these two leaders made me take this step.” Assuring the people, he said, “You don’t need doubt that, I can make it.”

While unveiling the statue of Late Tamil Nadu Chief minister MGR, he also praised the two leaders for their contribution to the state of Tamil Nadu. He also asserted that he will be following the path of MGR.

Lashing out at the media for asking him “irrelevant questions” he said, the people keep asking him why he delayed his political entry.

Recently, his political counterpart Kamal Haasan launched his party Makkal Needhi Maiyam. Before launching his party, he met several political leaders including Rajinikanth. Kamal Haasan had before the meet answered the frequently asked question whether he and Rajinikanth will join hands.

On the other hand, Rajinikanth on Monday asserted that many people keep asking him why he didn’t enter the politics when J Jayalalitha was alive. “I need not prove my courage,” claimed Rajinikanth. He further mentioned that he does not want to remind 1996 statement made by him against Jayalalitha.

Taking a dig at politicians in Tamil Nadu, he said many people are upset by his decision and are discouraging him. “It is not going to be an easy journey. But people have faith in me and people support and welcome my political endeavour,” he said.

Accusing the BJP of forming a proxy government, he tweeted, “With just 2 seats, the BJP has usurped power in Meghalaya, through a proxy.”

A day after losing its bastion Meghalaya to NPP-BJP alliance despite getting more seats, Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP and accused it of not respecting people’s mandate.

Rahul Gandhi who on March 1, had announced that he will be meeting his ‘Naani’ on the Holi weekend, was missing when the Northeast assembly elections results were declared on Saturday. Congress despite getting more seats in Meghalaya than BJP, couldn’t form the government as the regional parties opted to go with NPP-BJP alliance.

Accusing the BJP of forming a proxy government, he tweeted, “With just 2 seats, the BJP has usurped power in Meghalaya, through a proxy.” He also accused the BJP of disrespecting people’s mandate like in Manipur and Goa. Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP accusing them of using the money to create an “opportunistic alliance”. Rahul with a #DemocracyDemonetised said, “Like in Manipur & Goa, showing utter disregard for the mandate of the people. Obsessed instead with grabbing power, using big money to create an opportunistic alliance.”

Meanwhile, the NPP-BJP alliance’s Chief Ministerial candidate Conrad Sangma will be swearing in as a CM of the state today. The state was ruled by the Congress for over 10 years. However, after the fractured mandate in the Assembly election, the NPP-BJP alliance stumped Congress to form a government.
