“Have Serious Objections To The Manner In Which Observation Were Made”: Kiren Rijiju Comments On Court Statement Against Nupur Sharma

Last week, the Supreme Court strongly expressed its disagreement with Nupur Sharma’s remarks during a televised discussion and held her accountable for the level of violence in the nation.

Hyderabad: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday that he will bring up the matter at a proper forum, a day after the Supreme Court roundly criticized expelled BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma for her divisive statements against Prophet Muhammad.

While addressing the BJP national executive meeting in Hyderabad, Mr Rijiju spoke to ANI and stated, “First of all, as a Law Minister, it is not proper for me to comment on the judgement as well as the observation made by the Supreme Court panel.

“Even if I do not like the judgment or I have a serious objection to the manner in which the observations are made, I would not like to comment,” stated the minister.

Last week, the Supreme Court heavily criticised Nupur Sharma for her remarks during a televised discussion and held her culpable for the level of violence in the nation.

“Reactions are coming, I am getting lots of representations and messages to react on this, but we will discuss the issue at the appropriate forum.”, the Union Law Minister said, talking about the issue.

It’s interesting to note that the comments were made verbally or orally and were not represented in the ruling issued by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court also stated that Ms Sharma is solely to blame for the state of the nation due to “her loose tongue” and “setting the entire country on fire.” According to the Supreme Court, she should “apologise to the whole country.”

“I would not like to make a direct comment or reference to the Supreme Court’s observation. It is an oral observation and not a part of a judgment,” Mr Rijiju said

A panel of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala criticised Ms Sharma for her remarks and stated that “her outburst is accountable for an unfortunate incident” in reference to the Udaipur incident, in which two men killed tailor Kanhaiya Lal.

The Supreme Court also denied Ms Sharma’s bid to have all the FIRs filed against her across the nation because of her divisive comments about the Prophet transferred to Delhi, but it did let her withdraw her petition and pursue alternative remedies elsewhere.

Last month, Ms Sharma made offensive comments about the Prophet Muhammad on a prime-time TV discussion broadcast. This sparked widespread outrage in India and the Middle East, and the BJP was forced to suspend Ms Sharma while an investigation was underway.
