INX Media Case: “Don’t need P Chidambaram’s custody, send him to Tihar Jail”- CBI says in SC

The CBI in Supreme Court today said that it does not need P Chidambaram’s custody any more and he can be sent to Tihar Jail instead.

 

New Delhi| Seems like the troubles of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram are never-ending. Not even 24 hours after the Supreme Court of India offered him some relief, the CBI has asked the court to send him to Tihar Jail. The CBI in Supreme Court today said that it does not need his custody any more and he can be sent to Tihar Jail instead.

On Monday, the Supreme Court extended P Chidambaram’s CBI custody till Thursday. During the hearing on Monday, the Supreme Court asked P Chidambaram to appeal to the court concerned for interim protection. It also ordered that he should not be sent to Tihar Jail and if the trial court rejects his bail plea, his CBI custody will be extended till Thursday.

On 31st August, the court extended his CBI remand for three days. After this, he was sent to CBI custody till 3 September. Tomorrow the CBI remand will come to an end. In such a situation, Chidambaram is afraid that he can be arrested and to avoid this arrest, he applied in the Supreme Court.
