Jharkhand Elections Live updates: JMM and Congress alliance leading on 45 seats in Jharkhand. Alliance on the path of getting the complete majority

“Today a new chapter will begin in Jharkhand. I want to assure everyone that their hopes will not be broken irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, and profession,” Soren says

Ranchi| The polling for the five phases for Jharkhand assembly elections was completed on Friday. Votes were cast in different stages from November 30 to December 20. However, the Exit Polls numbers are suggesting that BJP could be in for a big setback in the state. As per the exit polls, the alliance of Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has a clear edge over the BJP and may form government in the state unseating the incumbent BJP.

The election results will be announced on December 23. Jharkhand is currently governed by the BJP alliance. In an 81 seat assembly, 41 is the magic figure needed to form the government in the state. But Jharkhand Exit Polls by various agencies show that the ruling BJP lags far behind the required number. Out of the 81 assembly constituencies in the state, 67 are affected by Naxalite.

In the first phase of voting on November 30, 64.44% voted in 13 seats, which is 1% more than the 2014 assembly elections. In the second phase on December 7, 20 seats had 64.84% voting, In 2014, 68.01% voting was recorded in these seats.

On December 12, the third phase of 17 seats saw 62.35% voting, 1.67% less than the 2014 assembly elections. On December 16, the fourth phase of the 15 seats polled 63.64%, while in the 2014 assembly elections there was 64.66% voting. On December 20, 70.83% voting was recorded in 16 assembly seats. In the 2014 assembly elections, there was 73.14% voting.

In the 2014 assembly elections, BJP won 37 and AJSU won 5 seats. Later, six MLAs of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) joined the BJP.  At present, the BJP has 43 MLAs.
