Chennai | The Madras High Court on Wednesday ended all the speculation related to the burial of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi at the Marina Beach by allowing the writ petition filed by DMK to allow burial of late Karunanidhi at Marina Beach. The Court further observed that there is no legal impediment to allowing the burial sought for.
The bench of Justice HG Ramesh and Justice SS Sundar was hearing in DMK’s plea to allow burial of former M Karunanidhi at Marina Beach. The Tamil Nadu government had earlier on Tuesday evening rejected the request from rival DMK.
The DMK alleged that AIADMK’s refusal to give six-feet land to bury the five-time chief minister next to his mentor CN Annadurai’s grave “reeks of pettiness and political vendetta”. DMK lawyers alleged “The AIADMK government does not have the courage to claim that it’s a political decision. They are hiding behind legal niceties, which we exposed inside the court yesterday. Lakhs of cases are pending before the High Court. Has the government come to a grinding halt? Why these double standards?”
Former Chief Minister and DMK chief for 50years M Karunanidhi at the age of 94after battling illness died on Tuesday in Chennai. He was 94.
