Manoj Tiwari opposes NDMC’s proposal to rename Ramlila Maidan after Atal Bihari Vajpayee

New Delhi | Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and Member of Lok Sabha from the North East Delhi constituency Manoj Tiwari on Saturday opposed the proposal of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to rename the historic Ramlila Maidan after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Speaking to media, Manoj Tiwari said, “We worship Lord Ram, so there’s no question of a change in the name of Ramlila Maidan.” He further added that if someone says something like that should be done, not necessary that you need to follow it.”

Earlier there were reports in media that a few BJP councilors have sent a proposal for renaming the Ramlila Maidan to the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who died on August 16 at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS). NDMC Mayor Aadesh Gupta also said that the process of renaming Ramila Maidan and Hindu Rao Hospital after Atal Bihari Vajpayee is likely to be completed by December 25, the birth date of Vajpayee.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also opposed the NDMC’s proposal. Criticising the Narendra Modi government Kejriwal tweeted,”Renaming the Ramlila Maidan after Atalji won’t fetch votes for BJP. Instead, BJP should change the name of the Prime Minister. Instead, the BJP should try changing the name of the Prime Minister. Maybe then they could get some votes because now people are not voting for (Narendra Modi).”
