When asked about the statement of Nirmala Sitharaman, Singh said that the Modi government should learn from the weaknesses of Congress.

Mumbai| Former Prime Minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh on Thursday said that the model of one-party government in the Center and the state has failed. Slamming the government on a slowdown in the country, he said Maharashtra is the most affected by it. Singh said the manufacturing growth rate of the state has been falling for four consecutive years.

Maharashtra becomes number one in Farmer suicide

Manmohan Singh said that due to Chinese goods, product manufacturing in Maharashtra is adversely affected and the industrial sector is declining, business sentiment is down.

“There is a lack of opportunities in the state. The youth are being forced to do low salary jobs. Maharashtra was once the number one state in terms of investment, today it has become number one in suicide.”

Singh talks to PMC account holders

Singh demanded immediate steps from the government to provide relief to the troubled 1.6 million depositors of the troubled Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank (PMC). In a meeting with the PMC account holders in Mumbai, Manmohan Singh said, “Whatever happened at the PMC is unfortunate. I urge the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Prime Minister, the Finance Minister and the Governor of the Reserve Bank to urgently look into the matter and come up with a practical solution so that 16 lakh depositors get relief.”

Manmohan Singh said, “This matter is with the Supreme Court, so I will not say much, but I am confident that the Reserve Bank will try to find a solution for this and it is expected that the government will take such a step, which will give 16 lakh depositors relief.” He said that the depositors who need money for very important work like kidney transplant should be given help from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

If we made a mistake, the Modi government should learn from it

When asked about the statement of Nirmala Sitharaman, Singh said that in Congress, there were some weaknesses, but this government should learn from our weaknesses and deal with the problems of the economy. “You do not need to avoid questions every year by saying that all these are due to the UPA government. You cannot find a solution this way,” Singh said.

He said,

“Your government has been there for the last 5 years. But what happened, Nirav Modi ran away. The government is just making allegations, not finding any solution to the issues.”

I am not so fortunate that the government will take my advice

In response to a question, Manmohan Singh said that I am not so fortunate that this government should consult me. Nirmala Sitharaman came to me before the budget and I had best wishes for her.
