Money Laundering Case Filed Against CM Siddaramaiah In MUDA Matter

Siddaramaiah

Trouble mounts for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as a money laundering case has been filed by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam. The case was filed after the Enforcement Directorate took note of a First Information Report filed by the orders of the Lokayukta.

What Is The MUDA Scam?

The alleged MUDA scam focuses on the value of land allotted to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, in a prime area of Mysuru as compensation for land elsewhere taken for infra development. The allegation is that the value of land allotted grossly – by ₹ 4,000 to ₹ 5,000 crore – exceeds that taken.

In a complaint filed by an activist, TJ Abraham, that named the Chief Minister, his wife and son, and senior MUDA officials, it was alleged that allotment of 14 alternative sites in a Mysuru neighbourhood was illegal and caused a loss of ₹ 45 crore, according to an NDTV report.

Responding to the claims, Siddaramaiah said that the land was gifted by his wife’s brother in 1998. However, another activist, Snehmayi Krishna, alleged the brother had procured it illegally and registered it using forged documents with help from government officials. The land was shown to have been bought in 1998. Siddaramaiah’s wife sought compensation in 2014 when he was the CM.

Karnataka HC Stays Further Investigation Against Nirmala Sitharaman In Electoral Bond Case

Shashank

In a major relief to Union Finance Minister, The Karnataka High Court stayed further probe against Nirmala Sitharaman and other top BJP leaders in a case linked to now-scrapped Electoral Bond scheme on Monday.

The relief came just days after an FIR was registered against the Finance Minister in Bengaluru.
The petitioner had claimed that corporate entities were coerced into purchasing electoral bonds to the tune of thousands of crores, citing raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate or ED as a pressure tactic, reported NDTV.

The FIR further alleges that the electoral bonds scheme facilitated the accumulation of illicit funds for political purposes, with Nirmala Sitharaman and other senior BJP leaders involved.
