Misinformation War- Shahrukh Is The Name Of Delhi Shooter, Not Anurag Mishra

The fact-checking website AltNews checked the authenticity of the claims made by both sides. At the end of their investigation, the website found out that the person was indeed Shahrukh and not Anurag Mishra.

Delhi| During the violence that broke out on the verge of clashes between two groups of protestors, a man was seen brandishing and shooting with a gun in North-East Delhi. On 24th February, a video from Delhi went viral where a man in a red shirt was seen shooting at the other protestors. Police’s initial investigation said that the name of the man was Shahrukh. Although many social media users claimed the man to be Anurag Mishra and not Shahrukh.

The fact-checking website AltNews checked the authenticity of the claims made by both sides. At the end of their investigation, the website found out that the person was indeed Shahrukh and not Anurag Mishra.

AltNews has mentioned in their fact-check, “The Jafrabad shooter was arrested by the police on February 25 and he was identified as Shahrukh. Alt News rummaged through the Facebook profile of Anurag D Mishra where several photographs of the user were found. As evident, he is not the same person. There are major facial dissimilarities – nose, eyes, and eyebrows.”

Although NDTV’s Ravish Kumar came under heavy criticism on Social Media after he created confusion over the person’s identity. In his widely popular show ‘Prime Time with Ravish, Kumar said that although the police have named the shooter as Shahrukh, he has been identified as Anurag Mishra on social media.

After the claims of the person being Anurag Mishra, Mishra himself had to come out and make a video that has been shared on Twitter by many users. In this video, Mishra has cleared that his pictures are being shared as a shooter in Delhi violence. He said that he has nothing to do with the man who opened fire.

In the time of utter violence and misinformation, it is necessary to provide authenticated and true information.
