New Delhi | Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, in a letter to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, has demanded a national debate for the ‘One Nation, One Poll’.
He also shared 5 points regarding certain issues.
In the first point, he noted that the Parliament should be made more productive, and urged the Prime Minister to increase his presence and participation.
He wrote,”The Honourable Prime Minister has to take initiative in improving the productivity of the Parliament. His presence and participation is necessary. Ministers should take their parl iament work seriously. The opposition should be given more time for discussions”.
He later talked about the ‘One Nation, One Poll’ idea which was proposed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An all-party meeting was held for this proposal, inviting all the party chiefs.
Pawar said that he was in support of the idea, but they endorse a national debate as it will require a constitutional amendment.
He wrote, “The idea of One country One election is a good idea but there are many political problems in implementing this. After 1957 Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha have been dissolved before the completion of their terms. There is political pluralism in India. Many political parties have emerged in the different parts of the country which creates problems One country One election. For One country One election. we have to make a constitutional amendment. Therefore. our party proposes a national debate on this question”.
Pawar proposed that for the 75th year of independence, the poorest villages should be made into “model villages”.
“Celebrating 75th year Of independence. we should identify 75 poorest villages representing all States and Union territories and develop them as model villages as per international standards. These 75 villages should be connected to their respective capitals by special roads”, the letter stated.
Talking about the 150th Birthday Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Pawar said, ‘Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birthday is very important. We should select 150 best schools from all pans of the country to conduct entertaining colourful programmes to educate children about Mahatma Gandhi’s role during the freedom struggle and his relevance today’.
Lastly, Pawar advised that the districts should be developed for more local arts and crafts.
“The aspirational districts should be developed as centres of their local crafts and skills. This will add a new dimension to the nation’s progress. These aspirational districts demand special attention to agriculture”, it added.
Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule had attended the all-party meet yesterday.
