Pakistan isolated globally after Pulwama terror attack: General VK Singh

VK Singh

Shimla | Union Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh on Monday said Pakistan has been “isolated” internationally after the Pulwama terror attack.

Speaking to mediapersons here, the minister said after the attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for complete isolation of Pakistan which has been made possible with the country’s diplomatic policy.

“More than 40 countries have issued strong statements against Pakistan. This is a big success for us as the number of countries supporting India’s stand is higher than the number of countries which had supported India after 26/11 attack in Mumbai,” he said.

Singh said India will choose time and place for retaliation to the terror attack as it will be properly planned.

“What is being planned, I do not know. Any war, war-like or punitive action must be planned for success. It should be a cold act and nothing is to be done in a hurry. Let us wait and watch and support our forces,” he said.

Even Osama (Bin Laden) was not killed in a day, despite the USA knowing the Al-Qaeda terrorist was hidden in Pakistan, he said.

When asked to comment on the angle of intelligence failure and connivance of some insiders behind the Pulwama attack, the minister said the entire matter was being analysed and then a comment could be made.

He said it should also be analysed why terror activities increased in south Kashmir after 2012 after a lull of several years.

Singh said the abolition of Article 370 needed support from all political parties.

Earlier in the day, Singh launched BJP’s ‘Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat, Modi Ke Saath’ campaign in Himachal Pradesh, as part of which the public’s expectation in all 68 state Assembly segments would be noted by the party. Some of these suggestions would be included in the party’s manifesto, a BJP leader said.

Jammu | National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Monday took up the security-related issues of the students and others from Kashmir with chief ministers of Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttrakhand, urging them to ensure their safety and well-being.

“Abdullah spoke on phone with Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Uttrakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and urged them to take appropriate measures for instilling a sense of security among the students and other Kashmiri people,” a spokesman of the NC said here.

Expressing concern over “threats and intimidation” to the Kashmiri students in various parts of the country, Abdullah told the chief ministers that the students are in a panic and fearing for their lives.

“Security is needed to be beefed up in the areas they are staying beside anti-social elements need to be booked for their intimidating tactics,” the NC leader said.

The spokesman said the chief ministers of the three states shared the concern of Abdullah and informed him about various steps taken in this regard.

They assured him that all the necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students, he said.

Meanwhile, Abdullah has again reiterated his appeal to the people of Jammu for maintaining peace and brotherhood.

He stressed the need for isolating elements inimical to peace.

“Foiling attempts of anti-social elements unitedly by the people belonging to various segments of the society is need of the hour,” he said.
