The Election Commission had sent a notice to Sanjay Raut for alleged violation of model code of conduct over his comment on CPI candidate Kanhaiya Kumar. Raut in Shiv Sena’s editorial mouthpiece wrote that the former JNU student union’s president should be defeated even if BJP has to ‘temper with EVMs’. The Shiv Sena MP further wrote that Kanhaiya Kumar is like a ‘bottle of poison’ and must not reach parliament.
