“Sena can form govt with Cong-NCP”, says BJP after decision to not form govt in Maharashtra

Chandrakant Patil said, “Governor invited BJP to form a new government in the state. The ShivSena expressed reluctance, disrespecting the mandate given by people.”

Mumbai| Ending the speculation over the formation of government in Maharashtra, BJP made it clear on Sunday that it will not form the government. On Saturday, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari invited BJP to form the government, being the largest party. The core committee of the BJP MLAs then met to lay out the future course of action. However, after the hours-long meeting, Maharashtra BJP President Chandrakant Patil said that the party will not stake claim to form the government.

Meanwhile, Congress and ShivSena also called a meeting of their MLAs. ShivSena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that if the BJP fails to win a majority, the ShivSena will execute its own plan.

Chandrakant Patil said, “Governor invited BJP to form a new government in the state. The ShivSena expressed reluctance, disrespecting the mandate given by people. We have told the Governor that we will not form the government. ShivSena, by insulting the mandate, wishes to form a government with Congress and NCP.”

Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has also hinted at joining the Shiv Sena to form the government. NCP’s Mumbai unit president Nawab Malik has said if the Shiv Sena votes against the BJP in the House, we can think of supporting it.

Malik said, “If the BJP claims to form the government, NCP will vote against them during the floor test in the House. We will see if the ShivSena also votes against the BJP to topple the government. After that, we will think about the support of an alternative government led by Shiv Sena.”
