Shivraj Singh Chouhan Moves SC Seeking Floor Test in Madhya Pradesh Assembly

Soon after the Speaker NP Prajapati adjourned the Assembly till March 26 without holding the floor test, the BJP moved the SC over the trust vote.

New Delhi| The plea filed by former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and nine other MLAs demanding floor test within 12 hours will be taken up tomorrow.

The BJP also submitted a letter and paraded 106 MLAs before Governor Lalji Tandon. Stating that while Congress has only 92 members, Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused the chief minister of running away from the battlefield.

Citing coronavirus outbreak, Speaker adjourned the House today. When the BJP raised Governor Lalji Tandon’s letter to Chief Minister Kamal Nath, the Speaker said the correspondence was between the governor and the CM. Earlier this morning, in a brief address to the Assembly, Governor Tandon advised everyone in the House to uphold the law so that the “dignity of Madhya Pradesh remains protected.” He was received by CM Kamal Nath outside the House who was seen carrying a mask. While the Speaker and Congress legislators were seen sporting masks, BJP MLAs were not wearing them.

On Saturday night, governor Lalji Tandon wrote to Nath asking him to seek a trust vote in the Assembly soon after the Governor’s address on Monday, saying his government was in minority.

The Governor had also directed that the trust vote be held by a division of votes and the process be recorded on video by the Vidhan Sabha through independent persons.

“The above work must be completed under any circumstances on March 16, 2020, and it should not be adjourned, delayed or suspended,” he had said in the letter.

Earlier in the day, Madhya Pradesh assembly speaker was adjourned till March 26 after the address of Governor Lalji Tondon without taking the floor test.

After the speaker accepted the resignation of six Congress MLAs on Saturday, the party now has 108 legislators.

These include 16 rebel legislators who have also put in their papers but their resignations are yet to be accepted.

The BJP has 107 seats in the House, which now has an effective strength of 222, with the majority mark being 112.
