Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, Maharashtra-Cadre IPS Officer, Becomes New CBI Director

Mr Jaiswal is a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre. He was the police chief of Maharashtra before being called for central deputation earlier this year.

An IPS officer and the current chief of Central Industrial Security Forces, Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, has now been appointed as the chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation for a two-year period.

After a series of meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Justice of India and opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the notification about Jaiswal’s appointment came last evening.

Mr Jaiswal is a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Maharashtra cadre.

The senior police officer not only held the top post in the Mumbai police, but was also the police chief of Maharashtra before being called for central deputation earlier this year.

Though he has not served in the CBI, he has had stints with the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
