“Surprised no Shaheen Bagh protester dead in Delhi’s cold” said BJP’s Dilip Ghosh

Veteran Congress MLA Manoj Chakraborty said, “How can a Member of Parliament make such an inhuman and uncultured statement?

Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bengal unit president and Parliamentarian Dilip Ghosh who has sparked another controversy on Tuesday saying that he was surprised that no protester at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh has died despite the national capital’s bitter cold.

“When demonetization happened people were standing in queues, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee initially requested them to protest instead of stringing up for withdrawing their own cash and later started alleging that people were dying standing in queues. Banerjee claimed that 100 people died.

“Our party does not know if anyone died anywhere. Surprisingly people were dying after standing in queues for merely two to three hours but now women and children are sitting at Shaheen Bagh for so many days and it is so cold out there! It’s barely 5 to 6-degree temperature out there. But nobody is dying. I sometimes wonder what Amrit they may have consumed,” Ghosh said in Kolkata.

“It’s sad that Banerjee is getting no chance to play politics over dead people as no one is dying. I am Surprise that people are withstanding such extreme conditions,” said Ghosh, the Lok Sabha MP.

He was speaking on how BJP achieved each of its promises despite Banerjee’s opposition.

Shaheen Bagh agitators have been camping on the road around-the-clock since December 15 to protest against the CAA demanding a roll-back of the newly amended law. National capital’s temperature dropped to 2.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest since 1996, on December 28, 2019.

Trinamool Congress party, the Left and the Congress strongly criticized Ghosh’s comments.

“He has turned out to be a complete annoyance. What’s worrying me most is that his remarks breaching all levels of decency would have a very bad impact on the psyche of the youngsters, the children, who are the future of India. It’s beyond me to fathom the low he can stoop to,” said TMC leader and Bengal state education minister Partha Chatterjee.

Veteran Congress MLA Manoj Chakraborty said, “How can a Member of Parliament make such an inhuman and uncultured statement? His series of tasteless comments are doing to the nation and the society great harm. Ghosh is belittling himself.”

The Left leader, Sujan Chakraborty said that Ghosh was taking cues from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. “He is merely following his leaders,”.
