Udaipur: As the town of Udaipur recovers gradually from the violent murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal early this week, officials declared that the ongoing curfew in the province will be relaxed for a period of four hours today. While internet services will remain suspended.

The 48-year-old Kanhaiya Lal was killed on Tuesday by two young men who documented the crime. In a later video posted on social media, Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad glorified about the murder and threatened violence against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Five additional people have been held in addition to the two that were arrested. The two have been detained by authorities in judicial custody for 14 days.

After Kanhaiya Lal reported receiving threats because of a social media post backing expelled BJP lawmaker Nupur Sharma, whose comments against Prophet Muhammad sparked widespread anger, Udaipur police came under fire for failing to provide security.

32 officials, including the Inspector General and Police Superintendent of Udaipur, are part of the Indian Police Service (IPS).

The NIA has been asked to investigate the sensitive matter by the Union Home Ministry.

Official sources claim that the duo had ties to the Pakistan-based Dawat-e-Islami organization and that one of them visited Karachi in 2014.

According to Rajasthan police commissioner ML Lather, the murder of the tailor was a premeditated act of terrorism that implicated additional parties.

“The main accused were in touch with the organization Dawat-e-Islami.

One of them also went to Karachi in Pakistan in 2014 to meet the organization. We are considering it an act of terror,” said the now suspended Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Mr. ML Lather.
