Chasing a target of 240, Indian top order collapsed in front of Kiwi pace bowling. The top3 batsman went back to the pavilion before a total of 5 as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli got out on one run each.
The Indian fans found their last hope in the match after the 100 run partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni. Jadeja scored a quick 59 balls 77 while Dhoni scored a half-century out of 72 balls after getting run out in the 48th over by Martin Guptill.

Earlier playing on a reserved day ahead of its previous score of 211, the Kiwi team scored 239 runs in 50 overs thanks to Ross Taylor 74 runs out of 90 balls after getting run out by Ravindra Jadeja. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson scored 67 runs out of 94 balls.
Buvaneshwar Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India who clinched 3 wickets in his 10 overs. Followed by Jadeja, Bumrah, Pandya and Chahal who got 1 wicket each.
Batting second India lost its top 3 batsmen on the low score of 5 runs. Which was followed by the wickets of Dinesh Karthik, Rishab Pant and Hardik Pandya. All 6 batsman went back the pavilion even before India even crossed a total score of 100
