“It was in the month of April-May that India witnessed almost one and a half months of the devastating second wave of the covid-19 pandemic. Authorities were caught off-guard and many lost their lives. We are past that horrific phase but the not past the threat of another possible wave of the Covid 19 pandemic. In fact, an expert committee report by the ministry of Home Affairs has sounded an alarm on the third wave. This report was submitted to PMO and said that the Third wave in the country will reach its peak by October. The report further states that the paediatric facilities in the country, including doctors, staff, medical equipments like ventilators and ambulances will not be sufficient if a large number of children get infected, reported a leading daily. The committee, headed by NITI Aayog’s VK Paul, has estimated that 20 percent of all the cases with severe or moderately severe symptoms might require hospitalisation. To discuss about the possible third wave, risks for the children and what are the best ways to reduce the risk, we have with us Dr Vinky Rughwani. He is a pediatrician and vice president of Maharashtra Medical Council.
