PM Modi said the renovated Jallianwala Bagh Smarak “would display the horrific massacre of April 1919 and instil a spirit of gratitude and reverence towards the martyrs”. However, the renovation of the Jallianwala Bagh has led to a huge row with historians, among others, criticising the central government for “erasing history” of that brutality.
