#MeToo India: Priya Ramani Wins Criminal Defamation Case Against Sexual Misconduct Accused MJ Akbar

After two years of daring battle, Delhi court verdict in Priya Ramani vs MJ Akbar case came as a big victory not only for Ramani and the victims of Sexual Abuse she spoke for but also for the entire Me Too movement in India. What began as story of courage of women who spoke up against a powerful man accused of sexual harassment today, has brought inspiration to all those who still struggle to raise their voice against sexual harassment and sexual abuse.
A Delhi Court today acquitted journalist Priya Ramani in the criminal defamation case initiated by former Union Minister MJ Akbar in relation to the sexual harassment allegations levelled against him during the #MeToo movement of 2018. More than 20 women had levelled charges of sexual misconduct by Akbar while they were working as journalists under him. terming the allegations as false, fabricated and deeply distressing, he had said that he was taking appropriate legal action against them. In October 2018, Mr Akbar had resigned as the Union Minister and denied all allegations levelled by all the women against him during the #MeToo movement.
On February 1 this year, after both the parties completed their arguments, the court had reserved its judgement. While pronouncing the verdict court made several important observations. Let’s talk about these Observations:
