Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has shown willingness to have talks on peace with India. This includes resolving problems like terrorism, water, trade and Kashmir. He brought up the India-Pakistan conflict, while in a joint press conference with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. He is currently on a visit to Iran.

Pakistan PM Sharif said, “We are ready to talk, for the sake of peace on water issues with our neighbour. We are ready to talk to promote trade and also, counter-terrorism. We wanted peace, we want peace and we will work for peace in the region through talks, on the table, and resolve our outstanding issues.”

Iran has kept its disposition towards the India-Pakistan conflict very balanced and measured by the way it has responded.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wrote on X, “We are delighted with the end of conflicts between Pakistan and India and hope that the differences between the two countries will be resolved.”

This is just one year after they launched airstrikes on each other. Pakistan and Iran appear to be putting their recent past behind. This is as Pakistan’s Prime Minister visits Iran and met the Iranian leaders. India had shown its support for Iran. This was after Pakistan’s terror group Jaish-ul-Adl had attacked Iran and it defended itself.

The situation in Gaza after Israel’s attacks on it seems to have brought both nations (Pakistan and Iran) together.

Supreme Leader Khamenei has said that Pakistan has never joined the nations which have made normalised ties with Israel. Pakistan has not done so. Otherwise, it would have been “a blatant betrayal of the Palestinian cause”, in spite of western pressure.

Khamenei said, “While there have been temptations for Islamic countries to engage with the Zionist regime in recent years, Pakistan has never succumbed to these temptations.”

“The situation in Gaza has reached a point where ordinary people in Europe and the United States are protesting their governments, yet unfortunately, some Islamic governments stand alongside the Zionist regime under these circumstances,” he said.

This was during a meeting with the Pakistani premier.

Reportedly, the Dawn said, Khamenei then added, “It is high time that the international community used its influence to bring a lasting ceasefire in Palestine. Pakistan stands by its brothers and sisters in Iran to promote peace, progress and prosperity.”
