The question over Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship is back in the spotlight. The Returning officer of Amethi while deciding on Rahul Gandhi’s nomination had termed it valid and had put a full stop over the questions regarding his Indian citizenship. But the issue has come back to haunt Rahul Gandhi again. Today, the Ministry of Home Affairs, issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi in connection with a complaint filed by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy raising questions over his citizenship. The MHA asked Gandhi to respond within a “fortnight”. #RahulGandhi #SubramanianSwamy #MHA
Subramanian Swamy in his complaint had claimed that Gandhi was listed as one of the directors of a company registered in the United Kingdom. He alleged that Gandhi had declared his nationality as “British” in the company’s annual returns filed in 2005 and 2006.
An independent candidate from Amethi Dhruv lal had raised objections over Mr Gandhi’s nomination from Amethi, alleging discrepancies over citizenship and educational qualifications in his election affidavit.
