“The Kisaan Mahapanchayat organized by the Kisaan Unions saw a massive turnout on Sunday. Farmers from across the country, not onlyu from Punjab and Haryana but also from UP, Rajasthan and even Kerala arrived in Muzaffarnagar to take part in the Mahapanchayat. The Farmers’ gathering was a Mahapanchayat in its true sense. The Samyukta Kisaan Morch claimed that more than 10 Lakh farmers attended the Mahapanchayat. Many who could not enter the grounds where the mahapanchayat was held, packed the streets of Muzaffarnagar as well as tractors and buses parked on the highway, watching the leaders on stage through LED screens installed through the town..Even outside the designated ground, there were queues almost 7-8 km long waiting. According to locals, the gathering was larger than any other gathering in the area in recent history. While the Mahapanchayat was attended by farmers’ leaders, Yogendra Yadav, Gurunam Singh Chadhuni, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, and several other farm unions chiefs. but it was BKU leader Rakesh Tikait who was welcomed to the stage with a wave of sound and traditional trumpet fanfare From the stage in Muzaffarnagar, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait declared his determination to oust the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh next year by tapping into rural anger and uniting farmers and workers across religion and caste. He vowed to continue the farmers’ protest till Yogi Adityanath is overthrown. The Muzaffarnagar Mahapanchayat is being widely viewed as a success of the Farmers’ unions to mobilize support. However, a day after a video clip has gone viral. In this clip Rakesh Tikait is heard chanting Allahu Akbar from the stage. The 19-second clip is being shared to raise questions on the ‘intent’ of the farmers’ with several questioning him over the religious slogans and accusing him of Muslim appeasement.
