NEW DELHI| Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Bengal and Odisha today for an aerial survey of the ground situation after damage created by the cyclone Amphan. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee earlier asked PM Modi to visit the state and examine the damage, which according to her in the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore.
PM Modi conducted aerial surveys of the situation due to cyclone Amphan and take part in review meetings later today. Also, visit Odisha later today.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a compensation of Rs 2.5 Lakh to the families who lost their lives. Cyclone Amphan has claimed 72 lives and thousands left homeless. This will be the prime minister’s first visit outside Delhi after coronavirus lockdown was imposed on the midnight of March 24.
The cyclone to hit West Bengal in 100 years destroyed mud houses and agriculture crops, and uprooted trees and electricity poles also wreaked havoc in Odisha damaging power and telecom infrastructure in several coastal districts.
