New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Karnataka on Friday and inaugurate Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. He will also flag off Vande Bharat train between Mysuru and Chennai.
PM Modiโ€™s focus has been all round infrastructure development across the country. โ€œBefore 2014, the government at the centre, in the railway budget, used to make an average provision of Rs 800 crore for Karnataka every year. But now, a provision of about Rs 7,000 crore has been made in the budget by the central government this year. It has now become almost nine times of what was being provisioned earlier,โ€ the release said.
It said that during the ten years prior to 2014, only 16 km of railway lines in Karnataka were electrified but since then, about 1600 km of railway lines have been electrified in the state.

EPS Faces Backlash As Court Halts Party General Council

E Palanaswami of the AIADMK is next in place for the Party General Secretary post.

Chennai: What may be considered a setback for the next in line for the Party General Secretary post, Minister Edapaddi Palaniswami, Madras High Court today restrained the AIADMK general council meeting from proceeding any further on decisions regarding EPSโ€™ present single leadership formula.

The division bench ruled in an interim order after a late night hearing that the partyโ€™s general council can only adopt 23 resolutions, that has already been listed.

General Council Member Shanmugan appealed against the courtโ€™s ruling last night. The member who challenged the partyโ€™s internal election asserted that no resolutions must be passed before the appeal was settled.

The appeal was followed by the initial decision to allow the council meeting which had raised high hopes for EPS.

The conflict for leadership arises as EPS wants a single leadership format while present party head O Panneer Selvam wants the present dual leadership format to remain.

On Wednesday, O Panneer Selvamโ€™s legal team asserted that the team would not permit any amendments or resolutions at the general council other than the 23 already listed to him. While another member of the council called a stay on the meet, as the general agenda was not presented to the members before hand.

Commotions begun to stir when EPS camp members pushed the idea of the single leadership at the district secretaries meeting held earlier this month.

Whereas OPS reportedly requested a high-level committee with senior leaders who worked with senior leaders MGR and Jayalalitha, to guide the general council meeting.

OPS commented that following Jayalalithaโ€™s death, the general council established the two-leader format and that any other idea of leadership was โ€œa betrayalโ€.

Speaking to sources, senior official and former Minister D Jayakumar said, โ€œThe rank and file of the party want EPS to be the General Secretary. We will move a resolution.โ€
