Aam Aadmi Party Declares Isudan Gadhvi As Its CM Candidate For Gujarat

Isudan Gadhvi

The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday declared Isudan Gadhvi as its Chief Ministerial candidate for upcoming Gujarat Assembly Election. Delhi CM and AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement in the Presence of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and other party functionaries from Gujarat.

The AAP had asked people of Gujarat to report its preferred choice for CM candidate and 73% people voted for Isudan Gadhvi, Kejriwal said.

Isudan Gadhvi, before joining politics, was a well-known journalist and anchor of his popular news show Mahamanthan at VTV Gujarati.

40-year-old Gadhvi comes from Pipaliya village near Jamkhambhaliya town in Devbhoomi Dwarka district of Gujarat. In June 2021, Gadhvi joined the AAP Party facilitated by Arvind Kejriwal, who arrived in Ahmedabad to inaugurate AAPโ€™s state headquarters.

Recently in June 2022, ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat, the AAP dissolved its Gujarat unit and reinvigorated it with a new organizational structure, marked by the appointment of Gadhvi, a popular face of the party in Gujarat, as the National Joint General Secretary.

Prior to the Assembly elections in Punjab, the AAP had conducted a survey in which Bhagwant Mann had been the clear popular choice. Mann went on to become the chief minister of the state.

Earlier on Thursday, the Election Commission announced the dates for the Assembly elections in Gujarat.

The elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8, which coincides with that of Himachal Pradeshโ€™s result date.

BJP Got Major Electoral Bonds Share From Delhi Liquor Case Approver

Akanksha Yadav

According to recent data released by the Election Commission, the BJP received 66% of the Rs 52 crore electoral bonds from Sarath Chandra Reddy, an approver in the Delhi liquor policy case. Aurobindo Pharma, owned by Reddy, purchased the bonds between April 2021 and November 2023. Of these bonds, 29% went to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the rest to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Notably, Rs 5 crore worth of bonds were purchased by Aurobindo Pharma five days after Reddyโ€™s arrest in November 2022, with the BJP redeeming them on November 21, 2022. In June 2023, a Delhi court allowed Reddy, a non-executive director at Aurobindo Pharma, to serve as an approver in the liquor policy case and granted him a pardon.

Delhi Education Minister Atishi referenced Reddyโ€™s electoral bond payments, suggesting that the Enforcement Directorateโ€™s actions were influenced by the ruling BJP.
