First US Private Moon Landing Mission Unsuccessful

The inaugural private lunar landing mission by Astrobotic, intended to mark the United States’ return to the Moon after the Apollo era, ended in failure. Although the Peregrine Lunar Lander initially separated successfully from the Vulcan rocket during its launch from Cape Canaveral, it encountered malfunctions hours later. Specifically, Astrobotic reported an inability to orient Peregrine’s solar panels toward the Sun to charge its batteries.
