No one can ‘dictate’ to China what it should, shouldn’t do: Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping

Beijing | President Xi Jinping vowed Tuesday to push ahead with China’s “reform and opening up” but warned that no one can “dictate” what it does, as the Communist Party celebrated the policy’s 40th anniversary.

“No one is in a position to dictate to the Chinese people what should or should not be done,” Xi said as China faces a stern challenge from the United States over trade and diplomacy.

CBI court extends P Chidambaran’s interim protection; adjourns hearing till January 11

TestHostEntry

New Delhi | The Special CBI Court in Delhi on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the Aircel-Maxis case till 11 January 2019 extending the interim protection of former Finance minister P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram in both CBI and ED cases.

The court had dered hearing in the anticipatory bail application till January 11 after SG Tushar Mehta has sought time to collate and collect more documents. SG Tushar Mehta has informed the Court the sanction under Section 17A Prevention of Corruption Act is awaited for five more Public Officers.

Chidambaram has come under the scanner of investigating agencies in the Rs 3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis deal and the INX Media case involving Rs 305 crore.

In its charge sheet filed earlier in the case against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran and others, the CBI alleged that Chidambaram granted Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval in March 2006 to Mauritius-based Global Communication Services Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of Maxis.

The Maran brothers and the other accused named in the CBI charge sheet were discharged by the special court, which said the agency had failed to produce any material against them to proceed with the trial.

The ED is also probing a separate money-laundering case in the Aircel-Maxis matter, in which Chidambaram has been questioned by the agency and currently their anticipatory bail is pending.
