Tokyo 2020 chief Yoshiro Mori confirms Olympics won’t be cancelled

Yoshiro Mori indicated that a team of people from among the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Tokyo organizers would discuss how to proceed with the Games.

Tokyo| 2020 Olympics chief Yoshiro Mori said on Monday that organizers would consider postponement as one of many scenarios that they aim to have ready in four weeks, but that the Games would not be cancelled.

The Tokyo Olympics chief Yoshiro Mori on Monday said that the “Games will not be cancelled” in wake of the deadly coronavirus that has affected more than 3,50,000 and has claimed that lived of over 13,000 around the world.

“I am not so stupid as to assume athletes, people will come to Olympics amid global coronavirus crisis even if we push forward with it,” Mori said, as quoted by news agency Reuters.

Mori told a news conference a team of people from among the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Tokyo organizers would discuss how to proceed with the Games.
