After UAE’s highest civilian award, PM Modi conferred with “The King Hamad Order of Renaissance” in Bahrain

PM Modi said, “I am equally honoured by your friendship for me and my country. I humbly accept this prestigious honour on behalf of 1.3 billion Indians.”

 

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with ‘The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance’ on Saturday in Bahrain. He held talks on various bilateral and regional issues with Bahrain’s Shah Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bahrain is also important because he is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit this country.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet, ‘Prime Minister Modi was awarded the King Hamad Order of the Renaissance’. It was announced by Shah of Bahrain. Upon receiving this honour, Modi said, “I feel very honoured and lucky to receive “The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance”. I am equally honoured by your friendship for me and my country. I humbly accept this prestigious honour on behalf of 1.3 billion Indians.”

India-Bahrain bilateral agreements

India and Bahrain on Saturday agreed on cooperation in the areas of space technology, solar energy and cultural exchange, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held detailed talks with Bahrain’s Prime Minister Shahzad Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to expand the entire dimension of bilateral relations. MoUs were signed in the areas of Culture, Space, International Solar Alliance (ISA) in the presence of PM Modi and Shahzad Khalifa. Earlier there were delegation-level talks. Both sides also agreed on cooperation with ISA.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet, “New areas of cooperation were discussed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and HH Shahzade Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa witnessed the MoU between the two countries in the areas of culture, space, ISA and RuPay card to enhance bilateral partnership.”

ISRO to cooperate with Bahrain’s space agency

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the National Space Science Agency of Bahrain agreed to cooperate in the field of space technology. In 2015, PM Modi launched the ISA at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris with the then French President François Hollande.

Both countries also agreed on a cultural exchange program. Prime Minister Modi tweeted after the talks, “I feel honoured to meet Bahrain’s Prime Minister Shehzad Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. Our conversation was extensive and it covered a wide range of topics related to Indo-Bahrain relations.”

The two leaders committed to strengthening the entire dimension of bilateral relations. Before the talks, PM Modi was given a grand welcome at the Al Gudaibia Palace. Shehzade Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was received by Modi at the airport. Modi has arrived here as part of the third leg of the trip to three countries, France, UAE and Bahrain. Modi will witness the formal launch of the revival of the oldest Shrinathji temple in the Bay Area on Sunday.
