US President Joe Biden Dials Xi Jinping, Expresses Concern Over Hong Kong Protest

Washington DC| US President Joe Biden has spoken with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was his first formal talk after assuming power. He wished the Chinese people a happy new year. At the same time, he conveyed his priorities to protect the American people, protect prosperity, and preserve an independent and open Indo-Pacific.

Referring to talks between the two heads of state, the White House said President Joe Biden underlined his basic concerns about China’s aggressive and unfair economic policies, deadlock in Hong Kong, human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Taiwan.

Pentagon set up workforce to deal with China’s challenge

US President Joe Biden said that the Pentagon has formed a task force, which will make its suggestions in the next few months to deal with the challenge presented by China. In his first visit to the Pentagon, Biden said on Wednesday, “The workforce will consist of civil and military experts from various ministries, who will give defense minister Lloyd Austin suggestions on key priorities and decisions in the next few months, so that we will be able to address China-related matters.”

“This will require the efforts of the entire government, bilateral support in Parliament and strong alliance and partnership,” he said. He added, “In this way, we will tackle the challenge of China and ensure the victory of the Americans in future competition.” The Pentagon said in a statement that Dr. Eli Ratner, Special Assistant to the Foreign Minister, will lead this task force, which will give its suggestions in four months .
