Jagdeep Dhankhar, with 74% of the total valid votes, defeated joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva.

Mumbai: Jagdeep Dhankhar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on Thursday, he was nominated by the ruling BJP-led NDA for the countryโ€™s second-highest constitutional post and was sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu, who last month became the countryโ€™s fifteenth and second female president. Dhankhar today took oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dhankharโ€™s predecessor, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.

Dhankhar was elected vice president on August 6. He defeated Margaret Alva of the opposition and emerged victorious. The BJP-led NDA candidate comfortably won the election with 528 votes to Alvaโ€™s 182. The vice president is also the office chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Jagdeep Dhankhar reached 74.36%. He has the highest profit margin in the last six presidential elections since 1997.
