New Delhi | Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Rajvardhan Singh Rathore today filed their nomination for the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow and Jaipur Rural respectively.
Rajnath Singh before filing his nominations offered prayers at the Hanuman Setu temple and addressed the party workers at the BJP state headquarters. Singh later held a 6-kilometer-long road show to the collector’s office.
Singh is contesting from the Lucknow parliamentary constituency for the 2nd time, a seat which was earlier considered as the fortress of former Prime minister and senior BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 2014 Singh defeated then Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi. Singh in 2009 contested from the Ghaziabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Meanwhile former Olympian and Union Minister Rajvardhan Singh Rathore also filed his nomination from the Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha seat. Rathore was accompanied by his wife Gayatri Rathore and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
Speaking to media after filing his nomination Rathore said,” “I hope to get people’s support in large numbers. In history, every country was run with the guidance of sants and gurus. It is unfortunate that political leaders in India have parted their ways from sants, mahatmas and gurus and got engulfed in corruption.”
Extending his support to Rajvardhan Rathore, Baba Ramdev said, “Rathore is the pride of India. Modi ji should again be given a chance to come to power. In all aspects, the nation is safe and secure in the hands of Modi Ji. Rathore is working towards the development and progress of his constituency.”
Rathore is the sitting MP from Jaipur Rural seat, he is contesting against former Olympian and Congress candidate Krishna Poonia.
Voting on both Lucknow and Jaipur Rural will be held on May 6 while the counting of votes will take place on May 23.
