Bengaluru: The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology issued a Press release with the subject “caution”, it further warns Aadhaar cardholders against sharing their Aadhaar photocopy with any organization as a precautionary step against Aadhaar misuse.
The advisory suggests citizens to share only masked versions of their Aadhaar cards with organisations.

7 steps to download your marked Adhar card :
1. Go to https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ and click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option.
2. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar card number.
3. Choose the option ‘I want a Masked Aadhaar’.
4. Enter the Captcha verification code that will be provided for verification.
5. Click on ‘Send OTP’.
6. Download the e-Aadhaar copy. It will be in PDF format and password enabled.
7. The Aadhaar letter PDF password will be in 8 characters: a combination of the first four letters of your name (as in Aadhaar) in CAPITAL letters and year of birth in YYYY format.
The UIDAI also clarified “Unlicensed private entities like hotels or film halls are not permitted to collect or keep copies of Aadhaar cards. It is an offence under the Aadhaar Act 2016. If a private entity demands to see your Aadhaar card or seeks a photocopy of your Aadhaar card, please verify that they have a valid User License from the UIDAI,”
