“Arrest Me Too”: Rahul Gandhi Tweets Poster Critical Of Modi’s Vaccine Policy

Earlier this week, posters had come up in the national capital targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘vaccine diplomacy’.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, along with other leaders in the party, targeted Narendra Modi-led centre government today over it’s vaccination policy and arrest of people who protested against same by pasting posters in the national capital.

“Arrest me too,” Mr Gandhi tweeted today in both English and Hindi, along with the “white Hindi words on black background” poster that led to the arrests. It read: “Modi ji, why did you send vaccines meant for our children, abroad?”

Earlier, at least 25 First Information Reports (FIR) had been registered, with police informing that at least 25 persons had been arrested in connection with the cases where they pasted the same posters on boards and walls of the national capital.

Earlier this week, posters had come up in the national capital targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘vaccine diplomacy’. The posters pasted on walls and boards asked: “Modi ji humare bachon ka vaccine videsh kyon bhej diya?” (Why did you send our children’s vaccines abroad?). After the posters were noticed, all the districts where the posters were found registered FIRs under relevant sections of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, Delhi Disaster Management Act and the Indian Penal Code.

Some of the FIRs have sections under the Press and Registration of Books Act, Section 269 of the IPC (whoever unlawfully or negligently does any act which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe to be, likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life) and Section 34 of the IPC(common intention).

Most of those held were released on bail, sources said, adding that they were interrogated on whether they were hired to paste the posters or if it was a voluntary decision. They said technical investigation is also underway, and that posters and banners had been recovered from the possession of some of the accused.
