The grand old party’s in-charge in Punjab, Harish Rawat, reached Chandigarh on Tuesday and met Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and other leaders.

Congress general secretary Harish Rawat, amid the ongoing tussle between the Navjot Singh Sidhu and Captain Amarinder Singh-led camps, met the disgruntled Punjab Congress leaders on Tuesday and conveyed the party high command’s decision on not replacing the chief minister in view of the upcoming state election.

The grand old party’s in-charge in Punjab, Harish Rawat, reached Chandigarh on Tuesday and met Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and other leaders. Mr Rawat reportedly told them that their demand to replace CM Amarinder Singh was not justified as the assembly election were over head. He also asked them to work together and make the party organisation stronger.

Harish Rawat also met Punjab Congress Committee (PCC) general secretary Pargat Singh, a close aide of Navjot Singh Sidhu, and working president Kuljit Nagra besides state cabinet ministers and MLAs, India Today reported.

“The election are nearing. We talked about the expansion of the party organisation. Responsibilities will be given to the leaders as per their position to ensure the party’s victory in the elections. Navjot Singh Sidhu has also assured that the expansion of party organisation will commence within 15 days,” Harish Rawat said.

Mr Rawat will also meet Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday. Both leaders are likely to discuss the much-awaited cabinet expansion. The party high command is not in favour of the cabinet expansion which could spark further dissidence, sources have said.
