The world’s first vaccine has been developed by the Russian Ministry of Defense and Gamaleya National Center for Research on Epidemiology and Microbiology.
A government official on Tuesday said India has received an offer from Russia to conduct a trial and manufacture its “Sputnik-V” COVID-19 vaccine. The official also said that several companies are currently studying the proposal, NDTV reported.
“The government of India attaches great importance to this offer of partnership from a friend,” NITI Aayog Member V. K. Paul said.
He also added that the outcome of discussions on the offer was expected soon.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the country had developed the world’s first Coronavirus vaccine and he has administered it on his daughters. Putin said, “We have developed a safe Coronavirus vaccine and registered it in the country. I have vaccinated one of my two daughters for the first time and she is feeling well.”
According to Russian officials, the vaccine, named Gam-Covid-Vac Lyo, has received approval from Russia’s Ministry of Health and Regulatory Body as planned. It is being reported that this vaccine will be given first to frontline medical workers, teachers, and people at risk.
