Kangana, who faced flak from Maharashtra politicians especially from Shiv Sena, took to Twitter to thank Home Minister Amit Shah for the decision.
In the middle of a huge controversy over the actor’s comments comparing Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), Kangana Ranaut will now be provided with Y-plus category security, government sources said today, NDTV reported.
Personal Security Officer and 11 armed policemen including commandos will protect Kangana Ranaut, the union Home ministry sources said. Sources said the decision is taken after the ârenewed threat to the actor after she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput”.
Kangana, who faced flak from Maharashtra politicians especially from Shiv Sena, took to Twitter to thank Home Minister Amit Shah for the decision.
She said in Hindi: “This proves that a patriot’s voice cannot be crushed by fascists. I am grateful to Amit Shah, if he wanted, he could have advised me to go to Mumbai after a few days but he respected a daughter of India, protected her pride and self-respect. Jai Hind.â
The security move by the BJP has garnered eyeballs considering the high-level security being allotted to the actor. Kangana has been very vocal about the issues prevailing in the Hindi film industry after the unfortunate passing of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Earlier, in the ongoing feud over remarks on Mumbai and the ruling alliance, Shiv Senaâs Sanjay Raut had sought an apology from actor Kangana Ranaut. The Shiv Sena MP refused to apologise when he was asked whether he would apologise to her for his use of unparliamentary language about her in a television interview.
âIf that girl (Kangana Ranaut) will apologise to Maharashtra, then I will think about it (of apologising). She calls Mumbai a mini Pakistan. Does she have the courage to say the same about Ahmedabad?â Mr. Raut was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The entire episode started with Kangana Ranaut, a vocal supporter of the BJP and PM Modi, who said that she felt unsafe in Mumbai after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
âAfter a major star has been killed I spoke about drug and movie mafia racket, I donât trust @MumbaiPolice cos they ignored SSRâs complaints, he told everyone they will kill him yet he was killed, if I feel unsafe, does that mean I hate the industry and Mumbai?â the actress had tweeted.
Shiv Sena reacted strongly to her statement.
âWe kindly request her not to come to Mumbai. This is nothing but an insult to Mumbai Police. The Home Ministry should take action over it,â Sanjay Raut had said.
After Rautâs statement, Kangana had said that Mr Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, had threatened her openly and asked her not to return to Mumbai.
