Modi govt compulsorily retires 15 tainted Income Tax officers

Earlier, tax officials working in 49 higher posts including 12 officers of CBDT were compulsorily retired earlier this year under Fundamental Rule 56 (J).

 

New Delhi| The Narendra Modi government at the centre has now compulsorily retired 15 senior income tax officials due to corruption, CBI cases and other allegations.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has forcibly retired senior officers working in the rank of CIT, JCIT, Additional CIT, ACIT under Fundamental Rule 56 (J). There were many cases including corruption and CBI cases on retiring officers.

This action on corrupt officials has been taken in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise, in which PM told from the Red Fort that the government has decided to forcibly retire such officers of the Tax Department who unfairly exploit their posts and torture people who pay taxes.

He also said in his interview, ‘Some officials in the tax department misuse their powers and harass taxpayers. We have recently taken the bold step to compulsorily retire a significant number of such tax officers and we will not tolerate such behaviour. ‘
